It's all in our name

The Texas Catholic Boys Camp is Tecaboca's history as well as its present and future.  Started in 1951 by the Society of Mary (Marianists), the camp gave Tecaboca its name (the first two letters of each word creates the name:

An Overview

For over half a century, Marianists and their lay associates have staffed a camp where youth experience the outdoors under the skilled direction of caring adults. Our staff is rigorously screened through background checks, interviews, and reference checks. All staff participates in a full week of training, learning about child development, activity leadership, cabin leadership, and positive behavior management. Children of all faiths enjoy the camp, and all campers are encouraged to attend and participate in religious services. Tecaboca has 2 two-week summer sessions. Registrations are accepted for boys 7 to 14. Campers are grouped by age, and sleep in cabins with adjacent shower and restroom facilities.

Beginning in the summer of 2010, all boys camp campers and staff live in the cabins on “The Hill” and eat in the beautiful Pavilion Facility. Each cabin houses up to eight boys and two counselors.

Staff members are responsible for the welfare and recreation of the campers 24 hours a day. A professional food service team maintains a balanced diet for all. During Boys Camp, Tecaboca has full-time licensed medical personnel on site 24 hours a day, and the entire staff is well trained in health and safety procedures.

Activities

Tecaboca is fun! Riding horses is a favorite, run by experienced counselors who maintain a safe, enthusiastic environment that all campers can enjoy. Campers participate in archery and riflery programs, which teach precision skills and give campers a chance to qualify for awards. Red Cross-qualified lifeguards oversee a buddy system while campers swim in the cool and inviting Johnson Creek. And the fishing is great! While younger campers fish with traditional cane poles and rods and reels, older campers learn fly tying and fly fishing techniques. Some campers spend hours in the evening trying to land the big one in our beautiful river. Additionally, campers have an opportunity to craft camp keep sakes in our various craft classes. Evenings include special events like Frisbee Football, counselor hunt, capture the flag, an extended trail ride, camp outs, or the Ranger Run, a short distance marathon.
